2014 Alumni Advisory Committee
Proud Novocastrian and UON graduate, Belinda Smith is the new President of the Alumni Advisory Committee. Her predecessor Brian Kennaugh has stepped down from the role not only to give the "committee some new impetus that will take it to another level", but to spend some quality time on his golf game!
We also farewell our long-standing Vice President Bernie Curran who leaves the Committee after nearly 15 years' service. Bernie and the University go way back to 1963 when he began his studies here.
Grads shine on the international stage
Congratulations to our UoN alumni who have shone on the international stage in recent months at graduations in Hong Kong and Singapore as well as award ceremonies in Beijing and Malaysia.
Five graduates were finalists at the annual Australia China Alumni Awards in Beijing in November. The finalists were chosen from 90 nominations across 28 universities in the categories of Young Alumni, Award for Banking and Finance, Corporate Achievement and Women in Leadership.
At the Malaysian Australian Alumni Council awards, MBA graduate LAI Tze May took home the Australian University Alumni Chapter Award, recognising May's strong involvement in the development and ongoing operations of the UoN Malaysia Alumni Chapter.

The Seahorse has been the University's emblem since 1965 and has always had huge loyalty with our alumni, staff and the local community.
The original symbol was a mythical seahorse, based on the naval coat of arms of Lieutenant John Shortland, the first official European discoverer of Newcastle.
To celebrate this proud tradition and continue your connection to the University, our alumni magazine is called The Seahorse.
Published twice a year, The Seahorse features graduate profiles, alumni event wrap-ups, research updates and the alumni event diary.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Medical Alumni Magazine.
In this issue we share with you our latest news and events including the graduation of our first cohort of students from the Joint Medical Program. In other stories we highlight the amazing work of Dr Richard Fletcher into screening for mental illness in fathers, as well as profiling third year medical student Jessica Saunders who donated much needed medical resources to the neonatal and emergency departments at the National Paediatric Hospital in Cambodia as part of her medical elective.
We value staying in touch with our alumni to ensure our medical program stays abreast of the challenges of working in modern medicine. If you know other medical alumni either as friends or colleagues, please encourage them to update their details via Gradlink.
